Threads Productions
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Threads' purpose is to tell stories that start conversations about faith.
VISION STATEMENT:
Threads Productions will be strongly rooted in and respected among the New York professional theater community. We will consistently bring compelling, truthful works to life on stage. Threads’ presence will be welcomed by many New Yorkers as a vibrant addition to the city’s culture, and our artistic voice will be relevant to the city’s progressing exchange of ideas. Audiences and artists will be eager to partner with us because of Threads' contribution to the resurgence of thoughtful and exhilarating theater. Threads will help pave the way for Christian artists nationwide to engage the culture with powerful art that is an outflowing of their faith: art springing from the belief that this beautiful yet broken world is being rebuilt by a loving Creator
HISTORY:
More than three years ago, a group of Christians in the theater industry (see Leader Team) responded to a notice in Redeemer Presbyterian Church's bulletin to start a theater project. They asked the question, “What would be the cultural effects if some of the best plays and musicals appearing in New York City were being written, performed, and directed by Christians?” What began as a Redeemer ministry helping playwrights and composers develop their scripts has now expanded and become an independent theater company that produces writer workshops, staged readings and showcase productions.
PROGRAMS:
The New Works Series seeks to serve Christian writers through developing scripts that have the potential for success in the mainstream marketplace, specifically the New York theater community. We provide this support by creating opportunities for writers to experience an exciting developmental process of table readings, Writers' Forum participation, staged readings and possible “showcase” production by involving professional actors, directors and writers. We provide crucial script feedback through each stage of the developmental process and also provide the writer with opportunities to interact with New York City audiences. 2008:
This year, Threads will be focusing on two things; producing two Equity showcase productions and incorporating as a 501(C)3 not-for-profit company. We will also be launching a new website. So, please keep your eye out in the next few months for information on all our wonderful changes!
